Mr. Hysten's sports marketing/officiating class has been officiating some flag football this week. As a part of this class students choose a KSHSAA sport and complete coursework to become "certified" as an official. Students can then use the certification to officiate KSHSAA events if they choose to do so. Pretty neat class offered at Mission Valley.

Mission Valley students in the education career pathway attended the Future Teacher Summit at Emporia State University today. Students were able to tour campus, participate in interactive workshops and hear from several speakers. We are excited for these students to someday be in their own classrooms teaching!

On September 25 and 26, Pam Tennison-Rindt and Jim Rudeen with Evergy Environmental Services provided our sixth to eighth-graders with the experience of tagging monarch butterflies. Each group began with a short educational lesson about where the monarch butterflies are coming from and where they are headed. They are also shown how to determine the sex of the monarch and where to place the tagging sticker so that the butterfly is not unbalanced when flying. Many butterflies were moving on these two days, but that is what makes it difficult to capture them. Students are taught to wait till the butterfly lands and then place the net over it.
